The Vocal Wisdom of Balloons

Your voice kind of works like a balloon. The louder you sing, the LESS air you use, so if you want the best chances at straining your voice with loud volumes, then push the air out. If you want to avoid strain when singing or speaking loudly, then avoid pushing or forcing your air out when you sing.

Also, if you want to last longer during your phrases…avoid pushing air out when you sing. It often surprises people that you don’t actually use more air when you sing louder…you use less. This can be really hard to grasp since you can’t actually see what’s happening inside yourself when you are singing loudly with both freedom and control.
